Classes consist of readings, lively discussions, and a wide variety of writing prompts – some to awaken your creative spirit, others to explore techniques and many just for fun. Discover how to create intriguing characters, build fictional worlds, structure a novel, write poetry and meld your words into pieces that will intrigue and grip a reader. Whatever you love to write, our inspirational writing salons is for you. The course content is always changing, so you can take this program as many times as you want without repeating a thing!

Creative Writing: A Short Story Workshop

This brand new writers’ workshop is more product-oriented than our writing salons. You’ll begin the same way, with inspiring prompts, but move quickly into short story projects you will take from an initial idea to a polished final draft. Craft characters you love, then throw their lives in to chaos! Explore genres such as science fiction and mystery. Learn what makes a strong beginning and ending. Discover the skills needed to write flash fiction, construct a story entirely of dialogue and read some of the best short story writers of our time as you begin work on a project of your own. As the weeks progress, we’ll help you finish your story, and you’ll receive feedback from your peers as well as professional editing assistance. Learn the craft of short story writing in this intensive workshop and take at least one fiction piece from inception to a final, polished draft.
