Homeopathy

Description

Homeopathy is a system of natural medicine that considers the unique mental, emotional and physical characteristics of the patient and how they are connected. Homeopaths are interested in understanding all aspects of the person, not just the illness they are suffering from. They regard the symptoms of the body and the mind as a totality.
Specific remedies are prescribed that treat the whole individual, and restore the entire system to a state of health. Homeopathy has been in use for hundreds of years, and is a natural and effective form of treatment for a variety of diseases, both acute and chronic.
Homeopathic medicine:
  • is safe and non-toxic
  • treats physical, mental and emotional illness
  • does not suppress symptoms
  • considers each patient as a unique individual
  • removes the cause/root of the illness

What accreditation does a homeopath need?
In 2007 Bill 171 was passed legislating and enacting Homeopathy as a newly regulated health profession in the province of Ontario under the Regulated Health Profession Act (RHPA). The Transitional Council of the College of Homeopaths of Ontario is in the process of establishing and implementing standards of education and practice to protect the welfare of the public and to make sure that Health Care Professionals meet the criteria required to practice as Homeopaths in Ontario. However, until this legislation is complete, anyone can legally call themselves a homeopath without achieving a specific educational standard.??
When you are looking for a homeopath, you should inquire about their level of education in homeopathic medicine, and if it does not sound very thorough, you may wish to seek treatment with another more qualified homeopath.?? Our homeopaths have received the highest level of homeopathic training available in Canada at the Ontario College of Homeopathic Medicine
There they completed 4000 hours of homeopathic study, an additional 1100-hour clinical internship, as well as extensive training in the standard medical sciences.  All our homeopaths are accredited by the Ontario Homeopathic Association.

Is Homeopathy safe??
Yes! Homeopathy has been practiced safely for centuries. Pregnant women, babies and the elderly can take remedies without risk of toxic side effects.

Homeopathy can also safely be used together with conventional drugs. There is no risk of homeopathic remedies interfering with, or disrupting the effects of pharmaceutical drugs.
Many patients who come to homeopathic doctors are already on some form of conventional medication. If you are using conventional drugs, it is perfectly safe for you to start homeopathic treatment. You will not be advised to discontinue your drugs while starting homeopathy. However, as your condition improves, you may be advised to consult with your doctor about weaning off the drugs.
The goal of the homeopath is to make you well enough that, if possible, you no longer need pharmaceutical drugs. It is a liberating experience for patients to find they no longer need to depend on pills to feel well.

What is a consultation like?
The initial consultation is an in-depth process during which you will be asked to discuss your symptoms in as much detail as possible.?? You will also be asked to describe your “nature” or personality, and your reactions to the various stressors in your life, in order for the homeopath to clearly understand you.
This is a very thorough process that allows you an opportunity to be heard, and enables the homeopath to find a suitable remedy. The initial consultation usually lasts two hours. Follow-up appointments take approximately thirty to sixty minutes.

What is a homeopathic remedy? ?Is it the same as an herb or vitamin???
Many people confuse homeopathy with herbal medicine or vitamins. While they are all natural, they are quite different. Homeopathic remedies are made from plant, animal and mineral sources. These substances are highly diluted and “succussed”, a process which removes any possibility of side effects, and activates their therapeutic properties.
The preparation of homeopathic remedies is done according to strict scientific standards. They come in the form of little round pellets or drops that are manufactured in homeopathic pharmacies. ??
In classical homeopathy, only one remedy is prescribed at a time. This system keeps the treatment simple, safe and inexpensive. The remedies taste sweet, dissolve quickly in the mouth and are easy to administer to infants or weak patients.
