Bone Mineral Density

Description

Overview.

Bone mineral densitometry (BMD) is a painless procedure used to detect osteoporosis. The strength (or density) of the bones, allows the radiologists to estimate any risks of fracture and to also allow for evaluation in the follow up BMD examination- response to treatment.

Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by the deterioration of bone tissue and the loss of bone mass. This can occur in men and women.
This leads to increased brittle bones and an elevated risk of fracture, particularly of the hip, spine and wrist. Osteoporosis is also referred to as “the silent thief” because bone loss occurs without any symptoms.
